If your website is built on the WordPress platform, please be advised that you should receive an email informing you that a plugin called ManageWP Worker has been installed and activated in your installation. Do not deactivate or remove this plugin as it is a tool that assists us in managing all of the WordPress-powered websites hosted on our server. Twice per month, your website undergoes scheduled maintenance. Your website is not taken offline for these processes to be executed but they are essential for the performance of your website as well as the health of the server on which it is housed.
Earlier today, you may have noticed between 30 minutes and 2 hours of downtime depending on which container your website(s) occupy. This was due to a security scan which was being processed on each client account after it was brought to our attention that at least one cPanel had been compromised due to out-of-date plugins, themes, and WordPress versions. In the end, we found that a total of three cPanels had actually been maliciously infected. It is critical that these updates be performed on every WordPress installation whether it is active or not. It only takes one malicious script to begin to utilize an extensive amount of resources. Once that malware or virus is inserted on several cPanels due to security vulnerabilities, a full on attack can be made which will intensify the resources used, max out the 8 CPUs available to our clients, and crash our very powerful dedicated server.
While we are constantly monitoring the environment of our server as well as each hosting account contained on it, maintenance of the websites we power is imperative. Being proactive is our best defense against the “bad guys” that are out there waiting for a way to get into your personal data. eDesign-Pro takes these threats very seriously and guards our clients against them with the highest level of precautionary tact, maintaining several backups of each client’s content and settings but the ideal situation is that we never get into a situation where we will need to use those backups because at that point, down time is going to be sufficient which is an inconvenience to us all.
We appreciate your patience during the brief offline period this morning. We are always working to provide you with the best possible customer experience. Please do not hesitate to contact our service and technical support team if you ever have any questions, concerns, or issues regarding your hosting account and its features. Have a wonderful weekend!
